AFL: Nashville Holds Off Orlando, 13-9

NASHVILLE-In a defensive struggle, the Nashville Kats were able to hold off the Orlando Predators 13-9 in Week 10 of the AFL season.

The first half was mostly dominated by punting, and the first scoring threat didn't come until late in the second quarter, as Orlando drove 67 yards on 13 plays. Abel White completed the drive with a 30-yard field goal with 1:55 to go in the first half. There was no further scoring after that, and Orlando led 3-0 at halftime.

The second half began much as the first half did, with both teams punting. Nashville would eventually get rolling with a 12-play, 44-yard drive. Daniel Stevenson finished the drive with a 34-yard field goal to tie the game at 3 with 4:23 left in the third quarter. The Predators went three-and-out, and the Kats would then drive 34 yards on 6 plays. Stevenson ended the drive with a 52-yard field goal to give Nashville a 6-3 lead with 14:54 to go in the fourth quarter.

Orlando punted again, and Nashville would go on a 7-play, 53-yard drive. Oliver Osler would score on a 2-yard touchdown run to make it 13-3 with 10:23 left in the game. The Predators were faced with a 4th-and-1 at their own 49, and went for it. But Lando Reynolds sacked DJ Haji and caused a fumble that was recovered by Tamlin Lake at the 44. Stevenson would miss a 42-yard field goal attempt, and Orlando drove 68 yards on 11 plays. Haji completed a 7-yard touchdown pass to Gene Crosby. White missed the extra point, and the Predators were down 13-9 with 1:30 left in the game. Orlando failed to get the onside kick, but a fumble by Damien Holden gave the Predators new life at their own 35 with 1:08 remaining. Orlando could only get to the 23-yard line, however, and Nashville successfully extended their unbeaten streak to three.

Nashville (5-4-1) gained 254 yards of total offense. The Kats ran for 111 yards on 28 carries. Osler led the team with 80 yards on 17 carries and a TD. Brewster Brickhouse went 21-of-28 passing for 144 yards, and was sacked once for a 1-yard loss. Vittorio Swane led Nashville receivers with 5 catches for 43 yards. Nashville will host the Detroit Drive next week.

Orlando (3-7) gained 247 yards of total offense.
